In knowledge age, 21st century, it is required to have high quality human resources with high intellectual ability. It requires solution which can overcome the living problems, especially the problem of environment and biodiversity. The purposes of this research is to know the effect of STAD learning strategy toward the cognitive achievement of biology in biodiversity concept. This quasi experimental research was to implement STAD conducted by using pretest-postest non-equivalent control group design were implemented in the even semester academic year 2008/2009 in Kota Metro. Based on data analysis and research discussion, the conclusion can be formulated that there was an effect of STAD towards the cognitive achievement of biology in biodiversity concept. The researcher suggests that teachers need to implement STAD in biology learning. Empower the students ability through STAD learning strategy causing the scaffolding of higher ability towards lower ability students’, so lower ability students’ achievement equal with higher ability students’, especially in biodiversity concept.
