The purpose of this study was to d etermine the effect on the ability of inquiry - guided learning models of mathematical understanding and self - confidence by c omparing the ability of understanding in mathematics and self - confidence with inquiry - guided learning models and the convent ional learning. The method of this study was experimental design with pretest - posttest control group involving the two groups. The population of this study was all stud ents of class VII SMP Negeri 1 Mesuji Ogan Komering Ilir. Purposive sampling method was used to select the sample. The sample consisted of two classes; VII.3 as an experimental group and VII.1 a s a control group. Essay and scale of self - confidence were use d as instruments in this study. A t - test was used to analyze the data. Based on the calculation of the independent samples t - test, it was found that the t - Obtained (8217) was higher than t - table (1670) and the à value (0.000) was lower than the P value (0: 05), the null hypothesis (H o) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H a) was accepted. It meant that there w as significance difference between students who were taught using inquiry - guided learning models and that of r eviews those who were not. In addition, most of the students who were taught through inquiry - guided learning models i ncreased r eviews thei are self - confidence Significantly better than the conventional learning.
