ABSTRACT

ndonesia has a diversity of food crops. Dif ferent and diverse topography make crop production will be different in each region. It is thus important to create a cluster area development potential based on extensive production of food crops and t he crop products produced perwilayah. Base on the desc ription above, the aimed of this stody is to identify potential food crops in every region of Payakumbuh, West Sumatra. Secondary data needed in the study consisted of a time series that consists of a number of crop production, harvest crops and land area wet land paddy, maize, cassavah and sweet pottatoes from five districts in the Municipality of Payakumbuh (Payakumbuh West, East Payakumbuh, North Payakumbuh , South Payakumbuh and Lamposi Tigo Nagari) . LQ analysis is done by comparing the share of the sec tor at the level of regional / local to the total share of the same sector at the national level. The results of this study are expected to provide a reference for further research and for policy - makers in particular related to the potential development of food crops in the district of Payakumbuh, West Sumatra, in order to prepare the policy related to the agricultural sector of food can adapt to the potentia l that exists in each region, as recommended in the research results
